I'd change the fuel filter first. It sounds like something is plugging up the system. if you still only get a trickle, there might be something that is restricting the flow inside the fuel distributor or the pressure control on the side of the distributor is stuck open. If the car has sat idle for any period of it's life, it could have varnish built up inside the fuel distributor. Get some Techron and run it through a tank of gas to clean the inside of the fuel system.
My friend Dave had a wierd problem on his '78 99 EMS and I finally tracked it down to a tiny passage between the fuel pressure control and the upper part of the fuel distributor. You know what it feels like to lift the plate in the distributor with the fuel pump pressurized. Dave's car strongly resisted lifting the plate. I'd never run into that before. I took the plug off the side of the fuel distributor and took out the spring, shims and piston for the pressure control valve and sprayed a lot of carb cleaner up into that small passage.
