remove the outer tie rod nut(19mm) and seperate it from the knuckle. Remove the caliper and hang it from the spring. Undo the inner CV boot clamp. Remove the 4 ball joint bolts(horizontal ones). Pull the assembly out. Further work can be done on a bench or in a vise.
Re-assembly can have problems. Lining up the tripod bearing to the tranny outdrive is important and sometimes the upper balljoint doesn't like going back into its groove(personal experience). No need to mess with the spring at all on a 99. 900 is a different story.
