Ed S says re tire sizes: "Chris, The tire shop I've used for years says I can use a 185/60/15 on my '69 95. I haven't needed tires yet to try it."
Ed, I am approaching tire time for my own '69 95 and have looked into this question some. You may mount the 185/60/15 size you cite and be perfectly happy, but I would not, nor would I go to your tire shop.
If you visit TireRack, easily searched, you will find that the recommended rim width for 185/60/15 size is 5"-7". My stock rims are 4", reportedly there are some 4-1/2" rims off later Sonetts but never fitted to 95-96, that you may be able to find, but even those are not wide enough to properly carry the tires. So first off the tires are wrong for your rims. There will be adverse effects on handling and tire wear at least. The OD of the 165-15 tires that I run now is listed as 25.4." OD of the
185/60R15 tires is variously 23.5"-23.7". So secondly if you switch to those tires you should expect to lose about an inch of ground clearance, which may be OK for your situation but not for mine.
Tire selection is not a straightforward issue. A quickie assertion from the guys who sell tires that "This size will fit fine" would not do it for me and in this case I think they are demonstrably wrong. When you need to change from the OEM size because of availability issues you need to consider a range of issues and find trustworthy advice. Personally I am glad I have a little tread left, because I am far from sure which way to jump, but it will not be to the 185/60/15. K
