I used sandpaper to polish the surface. Start with maybe an 80 grit and progress to finer papers as you go. The final step after the sandpaper would be a rubbing or polishing compound. Remember this though, paint the black before you apply any compound or the paint will fisheye(won't stick). Masking the machined part takes a little time also. Use razor blades to trim the tape when needed. A spray bomb can my be adequate for the paint. It may be a long painful process, but I remember the end result looked fantastic(I did a set about 15 years ago)
