I quoted you because therein lies your problem. The model 96 transmission can be a delicate object, so treat it accordingly. Always be at a complete stop before shifting into or out of reverse. Also, the shift lever must be pulled out (away from the steering column) and shifted down toward the second gear position (with the lever pulled) out to get reverse.

Of course there could be many other factors, such as the slave cylinder isn't dis-engaging the clutch enough. There are numerous adjustments that can be tried before going all the way into a new clutch. Try bleeding the hydraulics to remove air from the system.
