96 Brake Master Cyl Posted by TimC [Email] (#3216) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TimC) on Fri, 8 Nov 2002 14:15:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well the master cylinder failed on my 67 96 a couple of weeks ago. Took it apart, noticed the bore was rusty and pitted. I suppose the only thing that can be done is to get it re-sleeved for big $$$. I tried just the rebuild kit with new seals, that didn't work.
An interesting ovservation: the master cyl. has a large fluid resevior and a small one. The large resevoir side is done for disk brakes in the car (front) the small is for drum brakes (rear), this I'm assuming was the original design for the master. The large resevour being necessary since the caliper stores more fluid as the pads wear. Now my car has 4 wheel drum brakes. So obviously the master cyl. wasn't designed for this car. I don't think it was designed with later disks in mind either because SAABs have split diagonal brakes! 1 disk on each circuit.
I wonder if this master cyl. was actually designed for some other car and if they are still avialable somewhere.
