Don,
OK, figure out what you mean by "Restoration". If the car starts, shifts, and runs fine, and has no rust cancer, then you are ahead of some of us. Also, do you have the room where you can dissassemble the thing, and leave it, or do you have to use the garage for other projects.
If you are like me, my first 96 ran, (Sort of), needed a water pump, exhaust, tires, and the brakes needed a going through. I made the mistake of parking it, with the idea that I would not start on it until I could do it right. I parked it for 5 years, and almost junked it when I moved. Moral is, get it running so you won't lose interest, and try to get it on the road. If your funds are limited, the first item I would buy is the factory shop manual. Chip sells reprints, or you can watch e-bay, but be sure you get the Factory SAAB one, and not a Hanes, or Chiltons. The aftermarket books are fine, but if I had to start out knowing what I know now, that's the way I'd go. For advice, boards can help. Parts, well, buy them where you find them. If you are REALLY on a budget for parts, watch E-bay, find a friendly NAPA, use Chip, (and others), and attend SAAB gatherings. Dual exhausts and fancy wheels are fine, but they can come later. Also, keep your eyes and ears open for cheap parts cars. Take what you need, and sell the rest. Be on the lookout for used engine hoists, stands, air compresors, and tools.
Good luck,
Kent
