I purchased a 1969 Saab 96 several months ago. I had an engine fire, and much trouble getting it back into working order. After 3 months of struggling to get it running, it worked. I was ecstatic to have my unique car finally running again. So, of course, I drove it to school the next day. Come lunch, me and a friend decided to go out and eat. I got to the 3rd stop sign on the way out, with no trouble at all. Then, when i've released the clutch in the correct manner, it....barely moved. I kind of figured it needed a little warming up, as it was December...and that morning, I had the same trouble...no power from the engine to the wheels. I drove it around that morning, and it ran like a dream. So I drove it around for a little while in a close area to the HS...but apparently it wasn't the same problem as it was that morning(or at least, it was more pronounced). After an hour of driving it around, it stopped moving at all. I could sit there, "in gear", with the engine going, and it wouldn't move. So I threw it into reverse, just to see what it would do....and reverse worked fine. So I drove it in reverse back to school, on an alternate road, as safely as possible...with my friends waving other cars around me etc. I towed it home the next day, and proceeded to try and decipher the problem. Logically, to both me and my dad, the problem seemed to be the throw out bearing...as the gears were apparently not engaging. However, there was absolutely no throw out bearing noise, at any point. In fact, there was no grinding, squealing, squeeking, or any noise at all. It just...stopped working. So, since we had little idea as to what it may be, I decided to rebuild the master and slave cylinder. So I purchased the correct rebuild kits, and rebuilt them. I installed them, and bled the line. However, there is still absolutely no hydraulic pressure...not even 1 psi. Now for the question... Do any of you know what the problem may be? Is there an alternate way to bleed the line than the 'traditional' method? Any advice at all would be GREATLY appreciated.
