Ed,
Familiar problem, I had the same with the Simons exhaust under my 96 and with the double Highgate exhaust under the Sonett. Somewhere around 3500 revs you experience resonance. The first time I experienced it was when the 96 got a new standard model exhaust. It was also attached to the floor just in front or just behind the metal plate at the front side of the back seat. The replaced exhaust didn't have that attachment there. When I got on the motorway and accellerated I had the scare of my life when I hit 3500 revs. It sounded as if I lost the complete exhaust. The Simons exhaust is also attached to the floor there. I encountered the resonance by making extra attachments to the floor at the front side of the pipe. It's not completely gone but it's far less than it used to be. This extra attachment combined with a flex coupling might iron the problem out completely. Keep us informed.
