Stay away from the '94 900. That was the first year of the new style 900, and many people have reported problems. (although some people have been very happy with the '94). I would advise at least the '95 or newer -- they seemd to work out some of the "bugs" after the first year. I have a '98 900 which I have had very few problems with.
As far as the price guides go... you will generally pay a premium when you buy from a dealer rather than a private party. The dealer will usually (though not always) provide some level of assurance that they have checked the car mechanically and fixed any problems. You pay extra to get that "safety net". If you buy from a private party, you can save money -- but be sure to have the car checked out by a mechanic you trust. Where abouts in Sacramento do you live? University Imports is the best (only) Saab specialist that I know of in the Sac. area.
Hope that helps,
Paul. (North Sac.)
