From President Roger:
(check out Doug's photos!)
Almost everyone missed an outstanding gathering of Swedish cars at Blackhawk. I don’t know where all the club members are that complain there are no events, but we have had exceedingly low attendance at the last 3 events we have had in July, August, and September. We will be setting the date for the Santa Cruz Wine Tour for sometime in late October early November – watch the web site under EVENTS.
Check out the pictures from the recent Blackhawk meet at http://picasaweb.google.com/dmorsepicassa/BASCOuting?authkey=fwNmT3Q7QfQ# . I had quite the morning getting there with my Sonett’s clutch master out of juice. This had happened 2 years ago and rather than refill the reservoir at Blackhawk in front of everyone (too much embarrassment) I stopped in San Ramon to top off. The short story is that I then got pulled over by San Ramon Police for having tags at least 2 years out of date AND for speeding. I explained that the juice hadn’t pumped up yet so I put the tranny in 4th and was just focusing on shifting. The officer confirmed a dmv check that my plates were current (even if I never bothered to put my tags on) and after a short discussion about Saabs, whether my stock bumpers were legal, AND all the Saabs passing honking at the show, he let me go. Of course, the story preceded my arrival and we spent the rest of the day swapping pull over stories.
The docent led tour of Blackhawk, by former President Doug, was exceptional. We were joined by members of the Sacramento Chapter Volvo club and will continue to invite them to future events. Our twisty drive to the winery rivaled any get-lost road in the Santa Cruz Mtns, and the winery itself was superb. We landed at Big White House Winery off of Tesla Road in Livermore http://www.bigwhitehouse.com/ where an enthusiastic winemaker showed us some of his experiments, in addition to poring excellent reds and whites.
I hope to see more Saabs at our last event of the season…
President Roger
