Hello to BASC (Bay Area Saab Club) mailing list! I hope the new year sees everyone in good circumstances with no leaky windshields and strong running transmissions. As the wet winter rolls on here in the Bay Area, we have been taking a break from our club activities. However, I'm taking my responsibilities as one of the club Presidents seriously and have put yet another red sonettV4 on the road this month. Here in the Santa Cruz mountains, it looks more like a little fiberglass boat on the road...
We have been asked by the Volvo Club (I have membership with a few 1800's) to join them at the race track at THUNDERHILL in Sacremento on APRIL 29TH. The picture here is: Your Car with Your Foot all the way on the pedal with Your Eye on the tach. DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR RED LINE IS? The last time I tried to find the red line in one of the sonetts, just after dropping in a new V4, I was cited at 90 (back when the limit was 55) going through the Morgan Hill speed trap on 101. I have included VCOA's invitation to include BASC below. Last year VCOA had to cancel the event due to lack of participation. This year they already have about 30 drivers paid up (money is returned if the event is canceled due to not enough folks).
Other news is that I am working on putting in a BASC web site. We will start out as a basic site with a section on upcoming events, a blurb about the club, and a way to send emails. For now stay tuned to club activities as posted on the Saabnet.com in the Events section. However, we have nothing planned until the skies clear in the Spring. If you wish to be taken off the cluib mailing list, simply let me, or the other club President, Cliff Quan (Cliff@gene.com), know by return email.
Best winter wishes to all,
Club President Roger Wapner

Imagine driving your Volvo at full speed through sweeping corners, over hill crests, and down long straightaways hitting over 100 MPH with out having to look in your mirror for Johnny Law to spoil the fun. My friends, the Track Day at Thunderhill this April 29th is the place to do just that ina safe and fun environment. If you have attended one of our other two events you know what I mean. If you have never done a track day believe me it is one of the most fun things you can do with your clothes on! If you want to participate time is running out. Running with other clubs would be a lot of fun too but we really have to get to our 60 driver attendance goal or we will wipe out the club treasury. I am not sure how many people we can recruit from other clubs. Lee is hopeful but we would be much more likely to succeed if we had half of our goal met within our own club. Thunderhill will only hold our time for us if we put our money where our mouth is this month. I have received many requests to hold space in the event but I simply can not do this without the money. So if you think you want to attend it is now or possibly never.
