Just pulled one from an 88 9000. It is a challenge becaUSE EVERYTHING IN THE COMPARTMENT IS AN INTERFERENCE FIT. Take off both front wheels and the right wheel well. Remove the hood. disconnect all wires, hoses, etc and the three engine mounts--2 on the right and one on the left--and the anti torque bar on right top. Drain oil, coolant and hydraulic fluid. pull battery and box. disconnect the drive shafts by pulling the inner boot back toward the wheel after taking off the clamps. disconnect the upper strut so you can pull the axles out of the splines by moving the strut outboard. roll the hoist in from the side aligned just about with the axles, use an adjustable spreader bar and slowly hoist engine and transmission out. You'll need a helper to wiggle it around a bit.
