3 cheers to someone your age wanting to take on this job. I think it's do-able, BUT you may want to enlist some help from someone else as well. It's always good have two people to pull an engine - especially if it's your first time.
Are you in the New England area? If so, I might be able to notify a couple of people near you that could possibly help you tackle this project, and maybe get you some hands-on help.
If not, you could try a couple of options
1) check in the "mechanics" section of this site under your state, and see if there's someone that would be willing to help you with this (proper tools, manuals, etc) You might have to pay them to teach you, but it would be money well spent, plus you'd get the job accomplished.
2) Go on to the "classic 900" bulletin board, and post your question again. you might get some more help than we can offer here.
I'm not really thrilled at the idea of you tackling this for the first time by yourself. Someone else might say get a lift and start unbolting things. But while this might successfully get the engine out, it's a much more difficult thing to get the engine successfully into the other vehicle.
Plus it's more than just the engine - various components change year to year and not everything is 100% compatible.
I admire your enthusiasm, and don't want to rain on your parade, but I would definitely get someone who's done a couple to help you out.
Let us know if we can be of any further assistance,
Chris Mills
