Thursday, Nov 13th, we had a great meeting at our new location - O'Conner's in Worcester. Missed a couple of key players, but attendence is at least picking up some compared to a year ago. Dirk forwarded a whole slew of info on what he's done as far as an SOG for 2005, and it looks fantastic. The event is slated for the Radisson Inn in Bristol, CT, and there may even be an auto-X in the works for Sunday.
Major thanks go to Dirk and the CT chapter for all his effort.
As for 2004, we're looking at Mount Snow in Vermont. Fairly central location, easily accessible, on the western side of New England, and this is key, since it doesn't look like there's going to be an SOC in 2004. (lots of folks may be coming in from the rest of the country)
As for dates, we're not sure yet - we're looking at June and July - unless anyone has any strong feelings otherwise. Format will be the same as previous years. And taking a tip from Marc Fails and his excellent crew from SOC '03, there will be a discount for early registrants, and an increasingly painful penalty for late registrants. Let's face it - events like this are not a piece of cake to pull off. And we're all volunteers trying to enjoy the event as much as anyone else. Waiting until the date of the event to commit is insulting to the folks who've been working on it for a year or more. More on deadlines as they develop.
Vermont is going to be ideal for a Saturday afternoon drive. We've got plenty of options from fun runs, to a scavenger hunt, to a TSD. But these will take planning and commitment from lots of folks. If the interest is there, please let us know earlier vs later. We'll need help planning routes, determining clues, measuring miles, printing directions, etc. It would really be great to see a contingent of Vermont members convene on this event and pull it off. Maybe the beginnings of Vermont chapter even.
Any takers?
Also, in order to make the weekend as enticing as possible, we're going to start focusing on sponsors again. We have a list of New England potentials, but if anyone has any ideas or knows "who to call" at various New England-related automotive and other businesses, please fill us in. We'll be looking for door prizes, raffle items, and goodie bag fillers.
Plans for this winter are
- to get the photo gallery up to date and open to the public, with space for all members who want to post photos.
- to put up at least a framework of 2004 events.
- to continue plugging away at SOG 2004 and 2005.
- to continue pushing for discounts/sponsorship from New England dealers and indies
- to update membership lists and start sending out the dreaded renewal notices - hard to believe, but we've got 8 members finally coming up for renewal end of January 2004. I say hard to believe because we've offset the exp. date on people's memberships so many times for the sake of compensating club deficiencies or member involvement, that for a while it looked like we would never start getting any renewal business. However, like it or not, this will be a main source of reliable income for the club in the years ahead. So when you get the notice, please look on it kindly and in the spirit of charity! Clearly we need updated snail mail addresses on a lot of folks, and emails as well. So you can expect queries on these in the coming months.
In order to make renewal a little more enticing, we plan on getting new batches of license plate frames, and club stickers, and any renewal will get one or the other......aw, what the heck - you can take one of each once your check arrives. So hopefully everyone will be well-stocked in NESA paraphernailia.
Thanks to everyone who's helped to make this past year so enjoyable. We were joking at the meeting last night about how we're just a bunch of people who like to get together and socialize, and the car is our excuse. It's said somewhat in jest, but I think there's actually a lot of truth to it. It's a great community to be a part of. Thanks.
Our next meeting will be in January at O'Conner's. The date's not set yet as I've got a board exam sometime that month. But we'll have specifics up on the web-site and on this BB soon.
All the best,
Chris Mills
