89 9000T worth fixing? advice please! Posted by Rob [Email] ![]() ![]() |
The 89 9000T I bought (long story) turns out to need a timing chain and two power window motor/regulators. A local Saab specialist, Walts Bros., West Springfield MA, looked at it today and said they don't do timing chains on these old motors (117k only), and that if the car were not so old they'd recommend a whole new engine. Further, they only do PW parts from Saab, so they quoted me around $450 each. Bottom line, they said it's not worth fixing. But the car is very nice, lowish miles, drives great, great body, just passed inspection, newish Pirellis, good leather, AT, sunroof, and I'd love to keep it. I need a hatch like this, for the dog, with good pop like this turbo. I do have $1000 I can put into the car. Do you think I should look for a lower profile mechanic who will try a timing chain and cheap or junkyard PW parts?
I'll be checking back here. Thanks!
