Looked though EPC for any offerings for a stereo upgrade kit for the NG9-5, dont see anything listed. Saab offered these to the '03-'06 9-3 crowd and the early 9-3s to upgrade to the "SE" stereo.
The NG9-5 stereo is made up similar to the NG9-3, where the "headunit" you see is just a control panel. The brains of the operation are within the dash. When looking at wiring harnesses for the front dash, the only selection available is "Customized Wiring Harness. Vehicle VIN must be supplied when ordering this part". I can see this being a much simpler option for auto makers as there are many many combinations, and replacement harnesses are not highly demanded.
Then there are the costs for parts alone, even if you found a Saab Tech willing to try and this install. The "custom" harness 13347067 lists at $2,220. The radio/tuner unit 20972237 runs $2,688.
Personally I think this would be done best by finding a crashed donor car and a couple weeks of time or just install an aftermarket unit and speakers. Could simply sell your 9-5 and pickup another with the options you want. Perhaps a dealer tech can look though IRIS and see if there are any bulletins to address a desired upgrade. Maybe their upgrade kits never made it to print on EPC programs.
