Transmission fluid change to synthetic

I want to change the transmission fluid on my 5 spd 96 900 SE turbo to the new Saab synthetic oil. Got some tech info from Saab but don't know the details of how to do so. I think I've read somewhere that removing the front left wheel should allow easier access. Saab also suggest that you fill with 1 quart of the synthetic, run the car and re-fill with 2 qt. Should I drive the car with just 1 qt in the transmission or just get in the car and changing the gear should be enough to mix the fluid. One last thing, what kind of tools will I need. Thank you.
