The oil pickup screen can be plugged up. (sludge)
Turn on ignition, don't start (duh!), now can you see the low oil warning lamp lit during this 'lamp check'. If not, you could not see that the oil pressure was low. The oil pressure switches all seem to fail like this at some point. The owners manual will show you were that lamp is located if its not lit up. It looks like an oil can.
Miles? orignal owner? engine oil that was used?
We have seen quite a few engines sludged up, but not totally siezed. Some turbos, but mostly the 2.3 NA variant. Seems to be oil related.
You might free it up with oil through the spark plug holes, but the bearings are probably gone. Draining the oil might reveal something if strained. And you can fish through the drain plug with a wire to see what solids there might be.
If timing chain failed the valves will be intimate with the pistons.
In such situations used engines are installed as rebuilding or new is costly.
