Well I drove it very slowly to the Saab dealer the next morning, kept the revs low and the shop was just around the corner. Then paid 17 euro for a new sump drain plug (in Ireland everything is expensive so you can imagine the cost of Saab parts). Saab would not take the car in as they were too busy - not very helpful - another problem with services in Ireland. So I brought it to a quickie oil change place where they were very kind and put it on the ramp. Then the head guy said he would get it off if I indemnified him against cracking the sump. I said it was OK so he put a monster vice grips on it and whacked it a few times with a mallet. It came off, they changed my oil using the oil I had already bought for the job and my filter too and charged me 25 euro. Checked my brakes and tires for free too. Excellent service. Curiously, the yard was filling with up with Saabs while I was there. It seems that the Saab dealership a few blocks away send all their cars down to get the oil changed, coolant checked, wheels balanced and a load of other tests that the overpaid Saab mechanics couldn't be bothered doing themselves. Of course the Saab guys charge a big labour fee for the work that is done by the quickie place.
