i kept having problems with the clutch cable ever since eric and jay at viking saab fitted the viggen clutch and pressure plate on my 96 900SE (various mods, thanks to the bb and dean)....i guess the theory was that the viggen pressure plate was just too much for the cable to handle. i didn't want to go to the hydraulic at the time, that was a mistake..

the last straw was losing a cable after only 9k miles or so and having to do an emergency replacement on the side of the road. the clamp on the side of the wheel well was screwed...i had stripped the screw at some point, fitted another one with some epoxy...it was really a hack job...so as opposed to buying another spare cable to keep in my trunk, i finally went for the hydraulic kit from a site sponsor (genuinesaab.com....thanks nick!)...

viking saab in gaithersburg, maryland, had done one before on a NG with good results, and i according to eric, the installation was pretty straightforward (thanks guys, awesome work as always)....the hit for me was the standard RR on the transmission to install the slave cylinder on the pressure plate ( a lot of $$$)...

the difference is night and day...clutch pedal is now effortless and the throws are crisp and clean. this is probably the best upgrade so far. the car is extremely driveable now...and no more worrying about the cable. is a little pricey if you just do it straight out, but i would highly recommend this upgrade to anyone with cable driven setup. best time to do it is obviously during clutch work/replacement. this is a MUST for any kind of aftermarket clutch setup or upgrade imo.
