Balance chain removal Posted by iveand [Email] ![]() ![]() |
just got off the phone w/ andrew's of princeton (sponsor indy in MN here w/ great rep). I was talking clutch replacement, but began to discuss balance chain removal. I wondered if it would be easier now since the transmission is getting taken out anyway.
Well, they surprised me by saying the timing cover did not need to be removed! They have had great luck removing them by taking off the pan and breaking and removing the chain from below. their cost: $525 p(minimal) + l.
I may just think about this. they have done it to several cars, including don andrews' own car. for a higher mileage car w/ other concerns, it seems like a good fit: I don't want to spend $1500 for a new chain, but I don't want it to go and ruin the whole engine.
other thoughts?
