DinD seems right on point. Another suspect could be the alternator or the battery. Do you hear a high pitched whine? That would be your alternator screaming in pain getting ready to strand you on the highway.
With your miles, and not knowing the maintenance, it also wouldn't hurt to take an afternoon to replace all the vacuum hoses, clean the idle air controller thing, a fairly easy DIY, clean out the crankcase pressure control valve thingy, check that your alternator is charging the battery (that's a good one -- that's what gave me all the warning lites and the chime of death last time, and I got some gearbox lights to go with it). Whack it with a hammer a few times, I've been told, may loosen up something sticking (I'm just repeating that one, never done it myself) if that cures it, it's time for a new alternator.
And of course, fix your leaking valve cover gaskets, they will leak oil onto the alternator causing it to fritz out.
Good luck.
