I don't know if the NA engine uses the same system, but my 900SE turbo looks just like that photo and has the same grey valve in more or less the same place.
The site you linked says: "The engine breathes through the filter, however, the engine has a Check Valve to keep the boost from going into the crankcase." Someone with a 2.3 NA engine will have to tell you if yours uses the same valve as the turbo, but with no boost to worry about, maybe not.
