I don't know if you remember my travails trying to DIY this last spring, but I didn't have the engine support like you do and thought I could do it w/o removing the subframe. Turns out, you definitely need to remove the subframe b/c the sump gets in the way of dropping the pan otherwise. The cork gasket is used along with some sort of varnish, special to cork, comes in a small brown bottle from auto parts store, permatex makes it. Also, even with the bolts removed the pan stuck to the block and I had to pry it off, bending it in the process which, sigh, resulted in the purchase of a new oil pan. So be careful prying it off, take your time.

Its hard to say if the cork is holding out one year later b/c various other leaks make it difficult to determine the source.
