Upper idler pulley Posted by Gregg [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I replaced my upper idler pulley when I converted to the short belt mod. The other day after starting the car I popped the hood to see if my coolant level was stable after tighening some clamps. While in there I heard a noise that I half heartedly pinned to be coming from the idler pulley.
My question is should I hear anything in the cab with the car running? Is that when most folks are replacing their pulley's? I don't currently hear anything unless I'm out of the car with the hood up.
I have the old pulley in the boot and in a pinch could put that pulley on. I have a trip next week to my sister-in-law's wedding. I was hoping to replace after, but thought I should get the opinions of the board first.
Secondly, I've had a small oil leak out of the head gasket (determined by my mechanic brother-in-law; since switching to synth) to the outside of the engine. I can't find any evidence of oil in coolant or coolant in oil. Short of ripping down the whole engine to replace teh gasket does anyone know of another possible solution.
As a bit of background, I bought the car with 42000 miles and changed the dyno oil, religiously, every 3000 miles until converting to synth at 96000 miles. I've seen no evidence of metal in the oil nor any sludge.
TIA.
