Install new ignition cap, rotor, plug wires and spark plugs to begin with.
Use Bosch cap and rotor, Bougicord plug wires and NGK plugs.
Many times when the cap and rotor gets older it develops superficial cracks. The moisture gets trapped in those cracks and it is nearly impossible to get it out.
If the ignition parts are original they should be replace anyway as a preventative service measure. 60K miles on cap, rotor and wires are a good service interval.
Also, disconnect all electrical connectors and blow them dry + treat with dielectric grease.
The sad fact is that todays cars cannot stand engine/steam clean wash like the old carburetted cars did. It is too much electronics in the engine compartment and water gets in everywhere.
