Three different things comes to mind.
Ignition switch, fuel pump and crank shaft position sensor.
It comes down to how handy you are working on cars?
Are you comforatble with removing the coil wire from ignition distributor and holding it about 1/2" from ground to check for spark when someone is cranking over the engine?
If no spark, it could be crank sensor or ignition switch.
Crank sensor comes back to life when the engine heat goes down so try with opening the hood and let cold air in to speed up the cooling down process. If you can make the car start (after a no start) by opening the hood and waiting 15-20 min to cool down, I say the CKP sensor is at fault.
If you have spark at coil wire, lift rear seat and remove cover over fuel pump electric connectors.
Listen for buzzing noise from fuel pump when someone is cranking over the engine. If no noise, check for voltage at supply wire to fuel pump. If you have voltage at the supply wire to pump when cranking the engine, the pump is dead.
These tests takes less than an hour for a Saab shop to perform (if the car is dead when testing!!!!!)
It could take many, many hours to test if the car runs at the time it is brought into the shop. That's the difficulty of an intermittent stalling problem.
