So the motor mounts helped some? That's good. There should be a slight delay as the shift takes a few hundred milleseconds to occur. And when you shift between P,R,D, and N the idle *should* change slightly. (Probably 2 different levels, lowest in gear with brake on; higher in P.) Is this change in idle the delay of power you're talking about?

The A/C strain sounds normal to me. It really does sap the power considerably.
