This is a frequent discussion topic. There are "known issues" on these cars. What to do depends on whether you want to spend a lot of money replacing stuff that "could go bad" or whether you just want to know about it. That in turn may depend on the cost of the item and how catastrophic the failure is. Here is some stuff I can think of that fails often or is good to know about:

-Sludge in 2.3 (2.0 too?) causing engine probs (balance chain, etc.), appears to be due to infrequent oil changes and especially dyno (conventional) oil
-Clutch cable (94-97 only)
-Ignition switch
-Auto transmission range switch
-V6 timing belt & tensioner & idler pulley (replace all every 30k)
-Direct ignition (DI) cassettes (2.0 only)
-Front suspension issues on 94-95.5 (redesigned later, update avail)
-some weak A/C parts on 94-95 (redesigned later, update avail?)
-accessory belts on 2.0/2.3 -> recommend short belt mod

Then there's all of the usual preventive maintenance stuff or things that wear out on any car, some faster than others: filters, plugs, plug wires, motor mounts, oxygen sensors, mufflers, etc. A related post to this: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/NG900/index.html?bID=103117

I would recommend doing everything on the SAAB service schedule, which can be found at: http://www.genuinesaab.com/psi/default.asp
Scroll down to "1 Service" then click on "Recommended Service Parts". It is a PDF.

There is something similar in the TSBs at Townsend Imports. "113-1906 Service Program US and CA. model year 1994-98" http://www.townsendimports.com/Saab_TSB_Folder/Saab_TSB_pdfs/113_1906.PDF

You might also work off of REM in Seattle's list (which is similar to the SAAB schedule but expanded): http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/NG900/index.html?bID=103128
