I hope with all my heart that GM/Saab don't rush this to market as I've heard enough criticism from numerous car magazines and others about the 9-2 already and it's getting to my nerves although myself I am not against it. Coming back from vacation where I rented SUVs (for off road/mud) and am quite puzzled by the experience altogether. The 2 were the honda pilot & nissan xtera. The Pilot didn't see any off-road but felt its suspension to be well built in absorbing almost any impurities in the roads. Cornering was a scare and I didn't push it much anyways (this is my first time driving an SUV). My passengers felt secure in their seats ... Don't have much to say here so let's jump to the next one ....
The Xterra spend much of the 3 days sub-merged (literaly) in mud running in "4wd lo|hi" mode perhaps to avenge the manner in which it handled on the freeway being gutless and the fact it was a gas guzzler. It got stuck in mud here and there but was able to steer it back to shore. Of course, the draw back is I spent (& my father in law) 2 hours washing the thing afterwards(with high-pressure wata). Overall, the ride wasn't near as comfy as the honda and cornering with any excitment or speed was a NO option. It hawled stuff but none that my Saab couldn't.

I admit I'm not SUV material but have enough confidence/optimism in Saab to put together a better built machine (i.e. Range Rover). I love MY97 NG900SE and can't praise it enough. I am pationate about its looks(few exceptions apply), hawling capacity, torque that it exhibits and think it's a car made for drivers that aren't lame or lasy to exploit its powers throughout the gearing & rpm range (with high octane). Hell, every Saab I've owned put a grin on my face ... I think the new models will be satisfying as well ...
