Better when warmed up suggests a relation to oil viscocity. Restriction through the oil pickup screen would do that. You can try:
If using 10W30 now, a [0|5]W40 oil to get better circulation when cold. Shell Rotella synthetic for $12.88/USgal at US Walmarts might be good.
Use a solvent oil addative that claims to free sticking rings.
Your oil filter might be getting full of crap too, so try changing the oil and fitler sooner if sludge is getting loosened up.
You can try AutoRX to let it eat the crud.
You should pull the oil pump's pressure regulation relief valve to confirm that its piston is not stuck open. It is accessed with a large downward facing fitting that is on the timing cover on the front corner. As work goes, this is not difficult, is a DIY and low cost.
