I have the Saab Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) on my computer, and did a search on the P/N on the 95 tranny vs the 98. There is a different P/N shown for 98, but it also lists the 95 P/N for the 98 model. The break occurs at tranny N94146 and N94146. Not knowing which one you have, I can't speak with absolute authority. From what I can see from the diagrams however, it looks like both trannys can be disassembled.
I can tell you for certain that the 95 tranny is NOT welded together, as I removed and repaired mine myself last September. The picture shown (My problem was with the interlock of the shifter mechanism, not with any gears or synchro rings.)
What are your symptoms? Who gave you the info that the case was welded? Was there any other diagnosis regarding the problem?
