SHUDDER ROUND 2: Valve Body

As I'm beginning to understand my shudder issue (when shifting from park to drive or neutral to reverse or any of the above I get a slight shudder and delay of power). Allegedly, it is caused by a lack of hydraulic pressure in my auto trans. From what I understand, the solution to this is either repair or replace the valve body.
Has anyone ever tried this? How much would a new valve body cost and can I swap them out without having to pull the trans? Is this a simple repair or something I'd have to take it to a trans shop for? Any idea on estimates for having a trans shop do it?
Some of this is an effort to solve a simple annoyance but I'm also interested in trying to extend the life of my trans. From what I've read, I'm working on borrowed time with 140k miles on it.
