Hello all you DIY Saabers!
I am happy to report that we were successful in pulling the engine out from the top. There was the driver side halfshaft that was bolted on to the engine (Intermediate drive shaft) that needed to be unbolted. That was what was keeping the flex plate from torque converter separated. In the process, we unbolted the alternator/idler pulley bkt with it. There was JUST ENOUGH ROOM to pull it from the top. We also took out the crank case cover for additional room. Moved the tranny as far away as possible. IT CAME OUT! Now I'm not sure how we are going to put the new engine in. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. A good days work done for a DYIer. Had to get that off my chest. Anyways, I'd be happy to help anyone who is doing similar work. A lot learned in the last few weeks.
Regards,
James from Michigan
