my thermostat stuck closed. My experience was same as yours with the 2 T-30 Torx screws, but then I had 2 10mm bolts holding that stat cover on - 94 SET, looks like they use whatever is lying around at the time. Nice having that gasket arrangement with the O ring. Minimal cleanup compared to other cars I have had with those old fibre gaskets where it took forever to clean up the surface or it would leak.
The Haynes manual was WAY WRONG on this...said thermostat was attached to the water pump....NOT.
Still driving this thing at 138k, but I have a 00 9-3 SE for a spare.
