Moose,
I am assuming you have a 4 cyl engine. I just reinstalled my engine back on and tried to put the drive shaft bkt back on with the alternator with the idler pulley. It is a one big mess. The alternator is attached to the drive shaft bracket AND the idler pulley bracket. If your car is like mine, that area is corroded and need liberal amounts of liquid wrench or wd40. There are 2 bolts that you have to get to from the bottom of the car. Not fun. The lower one is hidden and you have to feel your way. The third one, you have to get to from the wheel well. You have to remove the passenger side wheel well cover that hides the crank case pulley. Then you have to remove the long bolt that alternator attaches to the drive shaft bracket (hex bit). Then you have to swing away the alternator. Again, this is not easy, if you have corrosion build up. I am using anti-seize compound liberally when putting back together. Also, the drive shaft bracket is located by two pins. So even if you get the bolts out and alterntor bolts out, you may have to bang on it with rubber mallet to loosen the bracket. It wasn't an easy job.
Good luck,
James from Michigan
