Thanks to all on this board who have submitted suggestions for the above mods and more! I did these two jobs today after studying them for weeks here. The 900 is a friend's, and I wanted to make the initial Saab experience happier.

The Tonneau motor was the classic warped brace, pulling the gears apart. I made a brace with angle iron, bolts and wing nuts. Worked great. Saved a thou or two. Before bolting together I tried to bend the motor bracket back towards original shape on the vice and with c-clamps. Probably got half of it back.

The clutch cable went better and worse than expected. The instructions I pulled from one of the sponsors said to remove the black distributor box, which I assumed to be the fuse box. Couldn't figure how to get it out. Pulled the wheel, and went at it through the wheel well. Dash parts a pain to pull apart, not actually a pain, but more involved than I expected.

I was able to pull the spring out of the way easily with bent coat hanger and bunge as suggested by Swedecar-thanks Anders! Since I did not have easy access to the area of insertion, I attached the old cable to an electrical fish tape, and pulled the fish tape out with the old cable. I then attached the new cable to the fish tape and pulled it back in. The rest I was able to do through the wheel well. Probably took 4 hrs, but was dodging t-storms here in mid-west.

Getting the old cable off of the clutch arm was easily done by hand. Getting the new one on was a grunt with pry bars. Still, don't seemed to have gained much, so may be time for a new clutch on this 65k car.
