Hey Steve,

I went a little overboard with my stereo system (in my opinion, as I usually don't spend so much on such things). Ended up getting the following:

3.5" Infinity speakers in dash
6x9" Infinity speakers in rear
Sony CDX-F5700 MP3/CD player w/built-in 4x52 watt amp with 23 watt rms
Alpine 700 watt 1-channel amplifier with 250 watt rms
12" MTX subwoofer and enclosure
Monster cables all around

This came to a total of just a couple dollars shy of $1000, including installation and such. Took em a day to put the thing in - had to bring it back the next day though as the idiot installers just tapped the power line for the stock head unit, instead of running power straight from the battery. Basically - the new head unit drew so much current that it would make the SID unit freak out because it wasn't getting enough juice.

I love the sound - it's a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a car stereo in my opinion, but from what my audiophile friends say - I still got a great deal on it, for the sound I get out of it. The sub shakes my entire house when it's in the garage and the clarity is awesome. I may eventually add 6.5" Infinity's in the doors for more mids but I'll wait on that for a bit.

Truth be told, I probably would have been just as happy with a new head unit - reusing the old speakers. I really like my Infinity's but if you replace your stock speakers with them - they'll be way too punchy and bright without a sub (in my opinion). I thought about just getting new speakers and a cd changer, but being that I can burn about 150 songs onto one cd now, I don't really need it.
