I does sound electrical - especially if the lights dim - do any of the dash ideate lights come on during the problem. I find that when the lights do come on its to late, 11 Vdc. After the car runs for a while it sounds like you have lost power possibly and or consumed more power than you can supply. Is the alternator the original? How many miles on the car? You really need to check the voltage. Could be loose wire to and from the alternator. Place your light switch in between locations, so that the lights are off, this will lesson the electrical load and see what effect it has on your shudder test. But I must say, it sound like you have a good or new battery that recovers when idle and then on the long run it weakens due to lack of charge. I could be wrong, Check voltage, I See you later.
