Interesting comparison being that both use PVC piping.
When the end flare is not done well, there is more intake noise. I attrubute this to more turbulance, which would equal less air flow.
I had the same problem before I redid the flared end. I had originally used a 3" to 4" reducer bell for the end to open up the end in hopes to capture more air. After a few BB posts and discussions, I went back and cut the end off the bell and sanded and smoothed the end to create more of a flare similar to the stock end, just larger. What was most surprising and impressive was that the noise level of the intake dramatically dropped and it seemed to be boosting quicker. So the end flre does play a significant role in intake air and needs to be done right. I learned the hard way. So if you're getting more noise, especially since you are even hearing it "sing" a bit, I'd bet that you might want to revisit the end of the tube.
