Yes the same engine.
10K on dyno oil sounds like a death sentence.
Oil fails from oxidation and contamination. Heat makes it all happen. The top piston ring groove is the hot spot that breaks down oil. The acids of combustion depleat the additives that are designed to soak that up. Accumulation of wear metals act as oxidation catalysists. The result is goo. Synthetic oil was designed to survive heat and it does lubricate better.
So back to the 2.3 vs the 2.0 thing. Its all about turbos. For a many turbo owners the turbo is a technical wonder and the engine is very well cared for. For many 2.3 owners, its just an engine and they do not seek the best oil, best filters and don't worry too much about when the oil gets changed, and oil is oil is oil. So I am convinced its really a human factors problem.
Everything else being equal, one would think that a turbo application would be more severe. But I am also thinking that the 10.5 CR of the 2.3NA is more severe than the 9.3?9.4 CR of the 2.0 turbo. More NOX in the blowby gasses.
