When people say it's "easy" they must be in luck because I have never seen any easy in doing it, and I have the transmission out when doing the seal replacement (together with clutch job).
Be VERY careful not putting ANY sharp tools in between the shaft and seal. If you scratch the surface of the shaft you might end up having leaks forever.
The best way is to use a chisel with the tip grinded in a 45 degree angle. Try to get the chisel in between trans housing and seal and carefully knock the edge of the seal down making it loose the grip of transmission housing.
When the seal have deformed a little it might be easier to pull it out.
