When beeing under the dash replacing the clutch cable, (especially removing the air duct) it is very easy to misalign the clutch or brake pedal cruise cut out switch. Those plastic switches also gets very brittle with age and break easily.
Have them start there with the fault tracing.
One quick test that you can do is to find a straight open road with no traffic, get the car up to speed and put both your feet under the clutch and brake pedal and lift the pedals slightly with your toes and at the same time push the cruise set button.
If the cruise kicks in than the pedal switches are out of alignment.
