The easy answer first.
You can't communicate with the gear box since its a 5 speed. It doesn't have a computer. Only the auto box have the TCM.
I doubt you can disable upshift light since that feature arrived in 2001-2002.
The A/C problem is A LOT more difficult to answer without having the car present.
Have you emptied and done a proper A/C service/charge of the system? How do you know it have the proper amount of R134a in the system.
You say A/C compressor spins? Does that mean that BOTH parts of the A/C clutch is spinning, the inner part/pulley with belt over and the outer part/disc that is rotating the compressor?
Sorry if I my question sounds trivial but I don't know if you are a mechanic or not.
If you have pretty much the same pressure (within 10-20 Psi) over hi/low port AND the clutch is engaged properly it sounds like a shot compressor.
If you have about 50-80 Psi spread between the two gauges it could be an expansion valve or maybe wrong amount of R134a.
