Hard 1st gear - should I replace mounts?

I have a '97 900s 2.3 manual, clutch and cable replaced 10,000 kilometers ago. A problem I'm having is that at times (increasingly so) it is becoming difficult to take off in first gear smoothly. The car tends to judder and take off rather roughly unless you are ultra careful and slow with the deployment of the clutch. This problem is only on first gear, and very rarely 1st to 2nd is a little rough. The clutch feel itself is fine, it isnt hard or anything, and engaging other gears is a breeze.

Question is, should I suspect the rear or transmission mounts? Appears as though they are original. I jacked the car and had a look under, the transmission mount seems fine except for some welting of the outer rubber at the bottom of the mount.
How should the rear mount look? Is it normal for the cable attached to it to be seemlingly far apart from the rubber itself?

Are there any other ways to tell if I need new mounts, apart from the rocking test? I have done this, however I can't tell if engine movement is excessive....it seems as though the engine flexes upwards perhaps 1 to 1.5 inches when i did the test.

At night sometimes I can see the left side headlight 'vibrates' occasionally if parked next to a wall. However there is no real obvious harshness or vibration emitting from the engine.
