Sorry for the delay but I got busy suddenly.
Lets say that you use the fuel smell as evidence that the fuel pump is working, in that case you have also ruled out the crank sensor as beeing faulty.
The fuel pump cannot start if the crank sensor doesn't work.
First CKP sensor, then ignition spark and fuel. That's the way it works.
I cannot give you a straight answer as to what it could be at this point.
Did you look at the warning lights on the dash when the no start occured?
If the dash lights are dim during the no start and bright when the car finally starts. That indicates a bad ignition switch.
If the car acts up at the Saab shop it wont take long for them to find the problem. That's the problem with trying to rule out or advice repairs over the internet.
If the car was here acting up, I could in a split second rule out several things just by listening and measuring different wires for power and ground.
Hope the car acts up when you take it to the shop.
