All NG900's have multi-point fuel injection. The four injectors are mounted in the inlet manifold and fire fuel directly at the appropriate inlet port. I rather depends on your definition of Plenum but I would say There is no intake plenum as such.

"Direct injection" is a term I personally associate with diesel engines and which is a whole different ball game for those deisel oil burning guys . It is something to do with inhjecting the fuel directly rather than into a secondary chamber in the head as was used in the older deisel engines... but hey thats not relevant here so dont worry about it.

Now the Direct Ignition (DI)

Pulling the DI cassette does NOT pull the spark plugs. So "by pulling the spark plugs you mean to pull the direct ignition cartridge, right?"... WRONG.

You do need to pull the DI to get at the plugs, but it isnt what secures them in the head nor does it replace them altogether. The DI sits above the plugs as if being all 4 plug leads at once... it is actually many more things than that, but lets not concern ourselves with that just now. Once the DI has been lifted off the head you will see 4 "normal" plugs fitted to the head in just the same way as in a "normal" engine. Unscrew one at a time with a plug spanner or socket, inspect, gap or replace & gap if required.

If you are unsure buy a service manual to guide you (Haynes is good but they dont seem to publish it in the US... though its available some places on line) or if you are really unsure find a local indpendent saab specialist to help. Its good to build up a relationship with a good "indy" as at some point you will probably need his help... just like we all do
