The Trionic engine management system in your car is a bit special, in that it uses the plugs not only as igniting devices, but also as sensors. It applies a direct current to the plugs, and thus uses them as a compression sensor to determine which cyl is about to fire; and opens the corresponding fuel injector.
This puts a whole 'nother kind of dimension to the shape of the plugs compared to other cars; demanding that they are in good shape. Also this is the explanation why Trionic cars are so fussy about getting the correct (NGK) plugs and not another brand.
