Is it possible to test or even fix the AIC valve? I'm certain mine is stuck open.
I had major service completed at a dealer June 2003. This was before I became savy with my 1997 900SE T5 Manual, and realized I could have saved $300 by co,pleteing the work myself.
Anyway, the throttle position sensor and rear O2 codes were pulled during this service. They were cleared, but the CEL came on again days later. A month ago I replaced the rear O2 sensor but still got the intermitten CEL. Last week I got the codes pulled for free at a local Indy and the TPS and rear O2 codes were pulled, (probably stored since before replacing the rear O2). The CEL came back on 2 days later so I went ahead and replaced the TPS. Turns out the TPS the dealer sold me was faulty so they swapped it with a working one. Everything appeared to be normal, idle was normal. The throttle had been jerky and had some slight delay at times. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd was very jerky at times. The next day CEL came back and the idle was 2,000 RPM.
Last night I dissasembled the throttle body and removed the AIC valve and thoroughly cleaned each with carb cleaner. I also replaced all vac hoses at the same time. The idle jumped to 2,500 to 3,000 RPM after everything was re-assembled. I made sure all the hoses were properly tightened.
After searching this BB I tried pinching the AIC hose and could control the idle this way. This led me to believe that the AIC valve is stuck open. a New one is over $200 from eeuroparts.
So again, can this be tested or repaired? Is the AIC valve an electrically actuated motor?
Any helped would be grealt appreciated,
Thanks, -Gripen
